About this tool

The Fear & Greed Index measures market sentiment for Bitcoin on a scale from 0 to 100. A low value means extreme fear — investors are worried and selling. A high value means extreme greed — investors are excited and buying aggressively. The index is calculated from volatility, market momentum and volume, social media, surveys, Bitcoin dominance and Google Trends.

Many traders use it as a contrarian signal: extreme fear can be a time when others are selling in panic, and extreme greed can be a time when the market is overheated. It is a sentiment measure, not a price prediction, and it should never be used on its own to make trading decisions.

Formula

Scale: 0–24 Extreme Fear, 25–44 Fear, 45–55 Neutral, 56–74 Greed, 75–100 Extreme Greed.

How to use it

  1. Read the live index value and its label (for example, Fear or Greed).
  2. Check where the needle sits on the 0–100 gauge.
  3. Compare with the 30-day history table below.
  4. Remember: extreme readings describe sentiment, not the future price.
